Sirona celebrates 30 years of CEREC in Las Vegas

Thirty years old and more innovative than ever – the CEREC CAD/CAM system celebrated its anniversary with an exceptional event in Las Vegas. Jeffrey T. Slovin, president and CEO of Sirona, officially opened the celebration in front of an audience filled with thousands of excited professionals. Two new versions of CEREC Omnicam were introduced- CEREC AI and CEREC AF. CEREC AI can be permanently integrated in the treatment center, and the portable CEREC AF allows scanning and design to be performed in different rooms. Both CEREC AI and CEREC AF provide an efficient solution for larger practices. Sirona also presented numerous innovative applications of the CEREC SW 4.4 software and the new possibilities offered by CEREC thanks to integration with other digital technologies in the fields of implantology and orthodontics.

“We have achieved a great deal with CEREC over the past 30 years. Today, more than 35 million restorations later, our CAD/CAM system has proven itself a great success; up to 38,000 users rely on this method. Every five seconds, someone somewhere in the world is being treated with CEREC”, declared Michael Augins, president and executive vice president of Sirona Dental, Inc. “Despite its astounding development, the potential of CEREC as a key technology has not yet been fully realized and is still offering dentists many new opportunities.”

At this extraordinary event, Sirona hosted a superb blend of expert presentations, collegial exchanges and entertainment. In over 40 informative technical lectures, top-class speakers considered the various aspects of treatment with restorations or implants in one sitting, the integration of CEREC in practice and treatment workflows and new solutions for ordering transparent aligners for orthodontic applications. Speakers included Rella Christensen who is the co-founder and long-standing chairwoman of the CRA Foundation, and Frank Speak who is the Founder and Director of Spear Education.

The lectures were complemented by exceptional and diverse celebrity entertainment. The captivating presentation by leadership coach and financial adviser Tony Robbins was well received, as was the inspirational speech by three-time Superbowl champion Emmitt Smith. The band “Train”, who is internationally known for their songs “Meet Virginia” and “Drops of Jupiter”, entertained guests with a riveting performance on Friday evening. All in all, this event was one for the books and one that people would talk about for the next 30 years. The enthusiasm at CEREC 30 was tangible. “An unbelievable inspiration at an unbelievable event”, Dr. Joshua D. Howard from Dover, New Hampshire (U.S.) summed up his experience.
