What is the one piece of technology you could not work without?

The indispensable technology for my work is digital radiology. Instantaneous radiography yields a superior, more precise image quality, all without the need for toxic development agents harmful to both individuals and the environment. Digital radiology facilitates seamless data sharing and archiving, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and enabling more efficient patient care.

What is a skill that you feel would be important to teach a new practitioner that is not taught or highlighted in school?

The psychology of the patient. It is essential to remember that teeth are integral components of a broader entity – the patient. Effectively treating a patient requires a deeper understanding of their overall well-being, making it a more challenging task than simply addressing their dental needs.

What is the biggest obstacle or challenge you face today?

One of the biggest challenges I face today is the increasing demand for dental services, coupled with limited access to care, particularly in underserved rural areas. Additionally, navigating complex insurance systems and managing the rising cost of dental equipment and technology can be significant hurdles in providing quality dental care to all my patients.

How do you measure success?

Measuring success is determined by how people perceive what you have been able to achieve or accomplish. To declare that someone has succeeded, it must be both in their personal and professional life. Unfortunately, there are too many individuals who overlook the importance of their personal life in pursuit of professional success. For me, it is not just reaching career milestones but also maintaining strong connections with family and loved ones.

What steps or actions do you take to manage stress?

Constant music plays in the room, and I sing along while treating patients. This not only uplifts my mood and reassures the patients but also creates a soothing atmosphere. It’s important to note that in the clinic, everyone plays their part cohesively, which not only reduces stress but also fosters a supportive and efficient work environment.

What is your favourite book (or movie) and why?

My all-time favourite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. What resonates with me is the book’s message about following one’s dreams and staying true to one’s path, no matter how challenging it may be. Dentistry, like any profession, has its own set of challenges, but I’ve always believed in the importance of perseverance and the pursuit of excellence. The Alchemist reminds me to stay positive, stay focused on my goals, and continue striving for the best patient care possible in my dental practice.
