THE WHY: The Owner’s Story
Honce Dentistry is thrilled to open their recently relocated, beautifully-designed office in Kelowna, BC. Dr. Mark Honce graduated from dental school in 2001. After working with his father as an associate for many years, he took the opportunity to purchase the practice outright in 2010. His father had been a well-established fixture for dental care in the community for many decades and decided to stay on as an associate after the sale to his son. The office’s commitment to clinical excellence and personalized patient care has been an ongoing key to its success since opening its original location in 1974. Over the years, they have grown by consistently embracing and making available to their patients the latest in clinical advancements and cutting-edge technologies. In 2018, they decided that their current ground floor medical building unit was no longer large enough to support their growth, evolving workflow requirements, and desire to expand hygiene services.
THE HOW: Planning & Preparation
They initially attempted a minor renovation to improve their 2300 sq/ft six-op space layout. After trying to accommodate five milling machines, 3D printers and intraoral scanners, Dr. Mark was forced to set up some equipment in a nearby off-site location. It became apparent that these changes were insufficient to meet their expanding circumstances and opportunities. They decided to begin searching for a larger space that could accommodate their growth and evolving technological interests. After an exhaustive search, they considered purchasing in a less-than-ideal location 30 minutes away. Before moving forward, they stumbled upon a much more appropriate place in a new commercial high-rise development just 3 km away. The 17th-floor unit offers breathtaking views of Lake Okanagan, stunning mountains, and beautiful landscapes. They were initially worried about moving from a ground-floor high-traffic unit with prominent visibility into high-rise space. Their worries immediately diminished after seeing patients’ excitement upon arrival and eagerness to invite others.
THE RESULTS: Technical Design Features
The elevated scenic views have enhanced patient privacy and cultivated an experience of being served in an escapist, therapeutic environment. The larger 5300 sq/ft nine-op practice spaciously accommodates their laboratory technologies and digital workflow requirements. All treatment rooms are strategically positioned along the outer windows to take in the breathtaking sights. Abundant floor-to-ceiling windows flood each space with natural light, creating a bright, airy vibe for all to enjoy. Apple store’s clean, modern, customer-centric aesthetics inspired the interior design theme. Their modern practice design welcomes visitors into an open-concept layout with warm tones, textured 3D feature walls, and splashes of wood-like accents.
THE IMPACT: Empowered Practice Outcomes
The state-of-the-art practice has room for expansion and innovations in clinical care. They proudly deliver outstanding experiences from a beautiful new dental home showcasing their style and tastes. They have always placed a high value on philanthropy by giving back to the less fortunate in their community. Recently, they embarked on an exciting collaboration to support women in a local shelter. They aim to empower women in need by gifting them life-changing dentistry that gives them the confidence and quality of life they need to make positive advances in their overall lives. The entire team takes pride in their practice’s high standard of care and focus on clinical excellence. They are excited to embrace all that modern dentistry has to offer and to shape the future dental healthcare can play in the lives of their community.
