Dental Hygienists Meet In Newfoundland To Share Clinical And Research Expertise

Dental hygienists from across Canada will gather in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, from October 3 to 5 to share leading-edge research and clinical and teaching experiences at the biennial national conference hosted by the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association (CDHA).

Celebrating 56 years as a professional association, CDHA has assembled a dynamic group of speakers and scientists, who will present the latest information on oral health promotion, oral disease management and prevention, dental hygiene practice, and access to care. The keynote presentation will be given by Karen Raposa, RDH, MBA, who will review the oral health status of people with anxiety and autism spectrum disorders and share innovative techniques for providing dental hygiene services to these clients.  “CDHA recognizes that educated and informed dental hygiene professionals provide the best oral health care to the public.  We are pleased to offer such a robust three-day professional development program,” states Tracy Bowser, CDHA president.

Complementing the conference’s educational sessions will be special events, including an awards luncheon recognizing leaders in Canadian dental hygiene research, scholarship, service, and community involvement.  Among the recipients will be Dr. Sharon Compton, who will receive CDHA’s Life Membership award. Tributes will also be paid to CDHA’s 25-year members and to its dental industry partners—Colgate, Crest Oral-B, PHILIPS, Johnson & Johnson, GSK, Dentsply Sirona, Hu-Friedy, and SUNSTAR—who provide integral support to the dental hygiene profession through CDHA’s Partners’ Circle.
