Employee Killed in Dental Office Shooting, Gunman Shot by Bystander

A man walked into an Upper East Tennessee dental office and fatally shot his wife on Wednesday morning before he was shot and detained by a bystander who was legally carrying a handgun, authorities said.

“A concealed carry permit holder saw the threat, took action on the threat and stood by until officers arrived,” Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy told the Kingsport Times-News. “We’re calling him a hero today.”

Several law enforcement agencies descended on David A. Guy Dentistry, located on Clinic Drive in the Colonial Heights community outside Kingsport, after the shooting was reported there at 9:47 a.m.

Authorities have yet to publicly identify anyone involved in the shooting.
