The Government of Canada has announced the official roll-out plan for the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

Beginning this month, seniors aged 87 and older can start applying to the program, expanding to other age groups in the following months. Once eligible, individuals will receive an invitation letter with instructions on next steps for applying. An online application portal will be available in May 2024.

Children and those with proof of disability will be able to apply in June 2024, with all other remaining eligible groups gaining access in 2025. Once enrolled in the program, oral health services can begin for members of the program in May 2024.

“We appreciate the progress that this historic announcement represents, but we also recognize the need for ongoing collaboration to fine-tune certain aspects of the plan,” said Francine Trudeau, president of CDHA. “Our commitment to the oral health and well-being of Canadians remains unwavering, and we look forward to working together to build a robust and inclusive oral health care plan.”

“Today’s announcement has provided greater clarity on how the plan will be phased over the coming
months and throughout next year. This information will assist our member companies in planning how
best to support dental professionals as the Canada Dental Care Plan comes into effect,” said DIAC
President, Alain Dumais.
