Middle Tennessee Dentist With Four Practices Charged With Healthcare Fraud Scheme

A Middle Tennessee dentist and his employee are facing federal fraud charges for running an alleged scheme to defraud healthcare benefit programs.

51-year-old Richard N. Schott owns and operates Dental Excellence, a practice with three Murfreesboro locations and one Lebanon. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Middle Tennessee, Schott and employee Kendra L. Glenn submitted false or fraudulent claims to insurance providers from November 2013 through January 2018.

The claims were submitted to Delta Dental, TennCare, Cigna and DentaQuest. Schott and Glenn -the practice administrator- are accused of billing for dental work which had not been completed or even performed. They are also accused of falsifying dates to appear to comply with benefit programs, adding false narratives to upcode claims, and falsifying documents.

The two care accused of continuing to submit false claims even after insurance companies alerted them they were aware of the claims and a TBI investigation had been launched.
