Pandemic Backlog Leaves 50,000 Missed Vaccines and 40,000 Delayed Dental Screenings at Hamilton Schools

Public health will send redeployed staff back to their regular jobs at the end of April despite a resurgence of COVID that is forecast to last into the summer.

Hamilton medical officer of health Dr. Elizabeth Richardson says programs postponed or downsized for more than two years now have “significant deficits of care” and need regular staff to return.

Richardson was authorized by the board of health Monday to ask the province for $9 million for catch-up and recovery — significantly down from an initial request of $20.8 million.
