R.I.D.E. Muskoka – A charity cycling event

R.I.D.E. Muskoka (Respecting Individual Differences in Everyone) is a charity cycling event in support of AboutFace. Join us for an exciting weekend in Muskoka during the peak of the fall colours season, September 25-27, 2015. A traditional cottage experience hosted at Pow-Wow Point Lodge just outside of Huntsville, ON, the weekend will begin with a welcome reception on Friday evening to meet riders, volunteers and reunite the AboutFace family. Saturday morning riders embark on a ride through rolling hills, pristine lakes and spectacular colours of Muskoka. There are two routes to choose from, so everyone can participate. On Saturday evening, riders will rest their weary legs and celebrate at a delicious banquet dinner. On Sunday after a relaxed breakfast, guests at Pow Wow Point Lodge are encouraged to stay and enjoy the facilities at their leisure. All riders will receive a commemorative cycling shirt, water bottle, goodie bag and all food, snacks and beverages on route.

Why Support AboutFace?
AboutFace is an organization that provides programs and services for individuals who have a facial difference and their families. We also include individuals with a wide spectrum of acquired and congenital facial differences, their parents, siblings, health care professionals, teachers and our supporters and volunteers. Living with a facial difference creates a social stigma the effects the mental health of effected individuals and their families. For over 30 years AboutFace has been providing support through networking, education, awareness and social programs which help promote confidence, self-esteem and encourage and inspire our participants. In Canada 100,000 people are living with and 1,000 babies are born each year with a facial difference. Funds raised in this event will support programs such as Camp Trailblazers, Leadership Retreat, Adult Retreat and many other workshops, conferences and events.

Cycling routes
The Centurion: for experienced riders, this 100km ride circles around Lake of Bays, 1200m climbing
A complete century ride circumnavigating Lake of Bays, this ride provides a challenging route through the rolling hills of Muskoka. It will pass through the villages of Dwight, Dorset and Baysville along winding lakeside roads. This is a common route used in the annual Spin the Lakes event and the upcoming Ironman Triathlon (but they do it twice!).

The Novice: designed for families and recreational riders, this 30km ride circles around Peninsula Lake, 415 m climbing
A perfect challenge for the non-cyclist! This route circumnavigates Peninsula Lake on quiet backroads, while offering great views of the lake and colourful hills.
Volunteers will be directing riders at each junction and water and refreshments will be provided throughout. Both routes are completely paved except for the resort driveway. Road bikes, hybrids or mountain bikes with slick tires would be most appropriate.

Ways to Participate/Eligibility
Participants can choose between the challenging 100 km Lake of Bays loop or the 30 km Peninsula Lake loop, so there is an option for cyclists of all abilities. Participants are even welcome to invite a non-cycling guest to join us for the weekend. There is also an option for locals who want to ride but are not interested in accommodations.
