Re: Empowering the Future Dentists of Jamaica: Paying it (May 2012)

Dr. Glassman’s views on paying it forward and his noting that doing hands-on work can be more effective than writing a cheque are spot on. A friend of mine who has built and donated millions of dollars’ worth of hospitals in the developing world has never written a cheque to a charitable organization there. These often wind up in the Swiss bank accounts of unintended recipients.

Your readers should also know that Dr. Farel Anderson of Collingwood has been volunteering his dental services to remote areas of Jamaica at his own expense, for two weeks of each of the past twenty years.

Congratulations to them both!

Re: AACP

The Canadian Chapter of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain (AACP) is the voice, training vehicle and credentialing organization for all Canadian dentists to learn about TMD chronic orofacial pain, headaches and sleep disorders. We have held Annual International Symposia on these subjects in Toronto each Fall since 2007.

We were very appreciative of the Spring 2012 issue of Oral Health, which was totally dedicated to this area of dentistry. In those pages you met many of the leaders in our field. Clearly, most dentists graduate with minimal or no education in these very common and yet challenging patient conditions.

Our 6th Annual International Symposium will take place at the University of Toronto Learning Centre on September 21-22, 2012 and will host a wide selection of medical and dental authorities on these subjects.

We look forward to welcoming new dental teams to show them learn how very rewarding this type of treatment can be. Our offices are full of patients suffering from daily headaches, TMJ issues and/or those who cannot sleep well. Come to Toronto to learn how to help them. You will not believe how much you can change peoples’ lives!

Visit our website, www.aacpcanada.ca for all the meeting information and registration details. See you all in Toronto on September 21 & 22, 2012!
